Simurg Cave House

Simurg Cave House, surrounded by the enchanting nature of Cappadocia, has been brought to life through the meticulously restored stone houses dating back centuries; traditional cave architecture has been reinterpreted with a contemporary touch. The design and production process of the lighting for this unique structure was carried out with a holistic approach that reflects the spirit of the architectural style.

Lighting consultation was undertaken by Armada Lighting; all decorative and technical lighting products specific to the project were manufactured by Variolux. Each piece was positioned with respect for the historical fabric of the space; warmth, direction, and atmospheric effects were integrated with architectural details.

Products and Spatial Harmony

A total of 37 different models were used in the project. Some of the most notable fixtures, along with their codes:

  • VR524: The 500 mm long LED wall applique was chosen to elegantly highlight the stone surfaces of the guest rooms. (20W 3000K)
  • VR502: The E27 socketed indoor wall light, which creates a rustic ambiance thanks to its hat-shaped form, created an aesthetic focal point on stone walls.
  • VR512: Dual-sided tube-type fixtures provide both directional guidance and visual rhythm for the passageways.
  • VR295 GU10: Surface-mounted cylindrical ceiling fixtures enhance functionality by being integrated into the architecture and providing general lighting.
  • VR521: Flute-type table wall lights have been installed to complement the artwork in the hotel with warm lighting. (8W 3000K)
  • VR519: Retro Nordic interior wall lights added a harmonious vintage touch to the lobby and lounge areas.
  • VR601: Double-sided wall sconces used on the exterior facade offer a long-lasting and impressive nighttime silhouette with their 2xE27 IP44 design.
  • VR400 85×85: Linear pendant fixtures complement the architecture by creating a modern line of light in commonly used areas.
  • VR154: Articulated tube spotlights have provided flexibility in direction within rooms and increased the comfort of the experience.
  • VR902: Single-phase track systems and GU10 track spotlights were positioned to optimize both technical and visual control in the dining area.

Volumetric depth has also been achieved with VR310 GU10 pipe-type plaster-top fixtures and pendants at different heights; custom-made LED sheet metal appliques (IP65) with diameters of Ø20–30–60 cm used on the exterior facade support the building silhouette with nighttime visibility.
